My car was involved in a minor accident recently and now refuses to start. When the incident happened I didn’t stop the engine until I reached my destination but it refused to start once I had turned it off. Symptoms are as follows:

The engine cranks but does not fire. If I relock the car and the immobiliser it unlocks as usual (but does what is usual if I forget to unlock again to disable the normal immobiliser – ie, it cranks, fires once and then stops). Normally a relock and unlock twice solves this problem.

The red and green lamps by the door lock and on the rear view mirror binnacle flash a lot for some time.

The warning and indication lamps on the instrument panel all come on but don’t go off until I remove the key.

A scan with an iCarsoft produces the report “SRS airbag malfunction indicator lamp A1e15” No airbags were deployed.

I am told that removing the SRS module from underneath the radio will is easy and the module can be reprogrammed. I just need to move the car a short distance across a yard into the car bodyshop for minor repairs so not worried about driving on private land.

Does anyone have any experience of removing the module, and did taking the SRS module out allow the engine to start?

Many thanks!

1966 makes it a very early R129. I am impressed that SRS was available then.

From what I can recall, the Pagoda SL was still in production at the time, so your car must have seemed well ahead of its time. I hope you get it fixed.

Sounds more of a faulty alarm problem.. have you tried the spare key to see if that works. I think the SRS fault is another problem but as already said, I would try to reset that..

The iCarsoft won't let me clear this code - not sure why not but the option isn't there. I'll have another go at it this morning.
Sorry the car is 1996!

Possibly a “current” code so won’t clear, reset. Personally I would get the car running first then look at the SRS fault…

An update as of this morning - I have decided that the kit I have isn't up to it and nor do I have the experience, so I have arranged for a man to come from Swindon (not MB as I can't justify the luxury and they want the car at their wksps) who apparently knows about these mysteries. The repairs to the accident damage can proceed without moving the car. More anon.

Those of you who have been interested in the saga of the R129 that won't start after a very minor accident might be interested to know that it has been suggested that the "pyro fuse" might have blown.
Does anyone know if the R129 has one, and if so, where it is?

Not heard of one and can't find any references to it on Google.

Thanks to lostkiwi - I have since discovered that there isn't one on the R129 and it was introduced on the R230. Not sure if that is 100% accurate either.
The thing I have to dig out is behind the passenger airpag on the UK (RHD) model - as this is the most likely culprit.

I don't know the answer but is it possible it's tripped a G-level sensor and disabled something, such as the fuel pump for example?

Thanks for that - I have given up faffing about with it and have asked for professional help - 4 week wait but the Tech Director from the Mercedes Benz Club is coming over in March!

Could someone explain what "G-level sensor" refers to. A search on Google finds references only to on-line games.

And if someone would like to correct the error in the title for this thread, please do so. For some reason I don't have the rights to change it. Thank you in advance
