1997 C240 engine Oil Leak ? burning rubber?

Having just fixed the suspension spheres on my 124 I noticed a smell of Hot Rubber after driving the Wifes 1997 C240 . On inspection the hot rubber smell seems to be coming from the Engine Bay. Further inspection revealed that the Poly Drive serpentine (Fan Belt ) is oily and because of the way it winds round the wheels it appears to have picked up oil on both sides ie the Inside as well . I am thinking now that this is whats causing the Hot rubber smell and my Belt may well be slipping somewhere. However there is no point renewing it unless I can Locate and resolve the Oil leak First So my question is where is the oil likely to be coming from on the front of a 1997 C240????? There must be some known areas??? Thanks in advance

Is it def. engine oil?? Power steering pump leaks are very common. Slightly less common is leak from oil filter housing, both where the base meets the front timing case, and from where the oil cooler is bolted to it. Simple job of rubber seals for all the engine oil leaks, slightly more expensive for PAS pump leak.

Put newspaper under it tonight--Check it in morning and check fluid levels?
If its too late tonight--clean it all off in engine bay first in morning get it dry and do same again.

The front crankshaft seal can fail, this can coat the pulleys in oil

Thanks for the suggestions I will clean it up and inspect further around the suggested areas and also check whether its oil or PAS fluid
