1999 A160 - ATF fillup information

Hi,

I have just put together my engine and am lifting both the Automatic Gearbox and Engine into the vehicle this weekend. As I emptied the ATF on stripping, I need to know how I can check the level of the ATF when I re-fill? It appears I need to get a dipstick (beg, borrow, steal, buy) from the dealer - is there another way?

Are there any tips/traps I need to know?

I borrowed the MB Garage one and made my own out of 4mm stainless steel cable (like yachting cable). I soldered the end wires together, painted it black with an epoxy and marked my own gradations on it - Now I can check my own ATF level!
