Guys,
i've searched for the problem on the forums but can not seem to find the answer.
Just bought a 99 A160 and very intermittantly when pulling off the revs increase and it drops into F mode. Now this only seems to happen within the first few minutes of driving from cold. once warmed up the prob. seems to diappear. Seen some threads about a linkage or valve problem, can this part be replaced by myself or is it a garage job. The Car has only travelled 1000 miles in the past 12 months so could it be a case of the part siezing? Any thoughts or answers would be most appreciated.
Cheers

Yes atf is automatic transmission fluid.

An atf change is the cheaper option. If that does not work I suspect the valve body will need replacing.

Just come back from an A service at MB and it came out constantly in F mode. I took it back today and they say it needs a hydro/electric part in the gearbox. this is causing a high or low pressure loss in the gearbox, thus not allowing the gearbox to change correctly from first to second. it is also causing a fault with all 4 wheels from the esp and sending a fault to the ecu. lastly it is even effecting the locking of the tailgate?
They can fix it for £1350....... also a leak on the transmission body needs a probable new seal which would be another £1000. So my £188 "a" service is going to turn into £2350 of repairs????? its only done 39500 on a v plate. Tell me there is an easier/cheaper option, please....
cheers JG

It may be better NOT to take it to a MB Garage; Get a second opinion from a transmission specialist. But them I am feeling a bit bitter about MB and their garages at the moment....
