2.5 16v 190E Automatic Gearbox Failure - Reverse Only

Driving to work yesterday, my car lost all forward motion and drifted to a halt. The enging was running fine. If I put the car into reverse, it drove ok (backwards), but in any of the forward gears I only managed slight forward movement when reving the enging really hard. Ive checked the oil levels in the gearbox and they appear to be fine. Anyone got any Ideas ? Or is it a case of a new / rebuilt gearbox ?

Hi, sounds like bad news.Something similar happened to my 190 and I ended up with a recon auto box (not too expensive ).Good luck with it.

I always use a company near me in Kent called "Gravesend Transmissions". I have been dealing with these people for over 25 years, and in that time i've never known them do a bum job!

Looking at the map though, you seem to be rather a long way up in "White Stiletto land", so this might not help, but you could always give them a ring, they are always most helpful over the phone.

Hi Adam

Sorry to hear the bad news. Sounds like the B2 brake band has broken. I have had valve chests play up causing lack of drive. But it sounds more like brake band to me.
