2000 C180 Auto Box Stuck In 1st And P

Hello all, got a call this morning from a friend of mine with the above symptoms . He said it was fine yesterday, it was only this morning he had great difficulty getting it out of park, when he did get it out it wouldnt move up out of first gear Seems like a lecky problem to me rather than a duff gearbox. Sorry its a bit vague, any ideas guys?

Surely this is the brake lamp switch at fault, my head is not thinking well today

Probably a knackered battery dropping the crank voltage under 9.6v.

For the getting out of park I would agree with you Malc, but sticking in 1st wont be a BLS fault.

Thanks to all, turned out to be that circuit board thingy beneath the gear selector. 2nd hand one fitted and all is now well.
