Hi all, recently bought a 2000 c240 petrol 2.6 off a friend who said it was running perfect. He had recently replaced the crank sensor with a Bosch one as the old one was faulty. Since owning the car a week I've discovered that you cannot rev the vehicle above 3000rpm. As soon as the revs get to 3000 it cuts straight out. I put the car on a cheap obd reader which came up with P0335 crank sensor circuit a. I would of thought if it was a crank sensor it wouldn't run at all but it runs perfect up to 3000rpm????? Please help!!!!!!!

I think that you are going to need to have the codes read by a better code reader (Star or such like).

I'd guess at an air mass sensor, but it is just that - a guess.

The last time I had this, the car had gone to another garage for a crank sensor which had siezed in its hole. They had drilled out and damaged the teeth on the flywheel in the process. The car kept stalling above 3000 rpm and they couldnt work out why. It came to me when I discovered the fault then I explained that missing teeth on a flywheel isnt good as the CPS needs to see all of the teeth to be able to count the revolutions of the engine. I fitted a new flywheel and all was good again.

Smart + others :)
Are you trying to rev the engine in neutral or park? There is a rev limiter in both.

My thinking with Steve here, bent reluctor tabs will do this, could be an easy fix.

Hi there thanks for your replys, it cuts out when ever your driving or stationery in neutral. New crank sensor was fitted about 4 months ago, which old one was seized solid in hole and had to be drilled out - maybe exciter ring damaged - but why would it start and run fine up to 3k rpm?? Help!!! Thanks!!

I cant prove it but I would say the pulse rate at the lower rpms would not be enough to cut it out but the higher rpms it cannot cope with the amount of signals missing
