hi

new user to the forum, my 2001 320clk has developed a fault, engine turns over but wont start, i left it 10 minutes and it started with engine management light on. got home and after turning it over 3/4 times the engine light turned off. this hs happened before and i had the fuel pump replaced but dosent seem to have worked, i had the rac come out to me first time and bang the pump which got it going.

first time it happened was whilst I was driving

Everything can be done by a independant:D

If he feels flush he could pay up to 3 times the price at a dealer. For at the dealer they could not change it till it went on STAR,,then you have the thinking time

To be fair, half an hour labour, short test, to check for a fault code, takes me about (on a really hot engine) 5 mins to swap, and a lot of swearing!! so around £25!!! then cost of part on top of!!

would have to agree with the Crankshaft sensor as previoulsy mentioned but I have not seen these fail and generate an engine warning light ???

just a thought !!!

You may find the Quick test would be a good starting point - excuse the pun !

Have experienced fuel pump relays fail as well and this can be tested by the Indie with fuel pressure test being carried out - about 5 mins to connect to the fuel rail and see what pressure is generated.

Good luck

rac thought it would go out after 3 or 4 successful attempts in starting the engine which appears to have been correct both times it had problems. he advised something the do with low fuel pressure

Need to find a short name for your good self, like MBCT or something like!!

I was one of the mobilo techs for merc when the first 642 lumps come out and the crank sensors where dropping like flys, the first thing the owner would report was ESP on the dash before the car cut out, a short test would show L5 crank sensor and no comms with ESP!

It then became a recall, and then we started changing the already replaced CPS with the new part number one!

These now seem to have cured the cutting out fault!!

The funny thing here is the first part number for the 112 was 2728 when the cars were built, then went to 2828, now gone back to 2728!!

Dont figure!!!

We all make diagnosing faults too hard at times.

first get the fuel pressure tested -- simple right. a little cost involved.

There is no fuel pressure sensor on this car so would have to sit on fence with RAC suggestion.

2001 CLK - Engine Warning light being displayed ??? Are you sure its an engine warning light ??

I am sure the other guys out there will confirm but not sure these were displayed at this age ??

Second get a diagnostic scan carried out on the vehicle.

The joys of trying to sort things out on line!!

Sometimes you get it right, sometimes so wrong!!!
