Trying to decide whether to get myself a newer smaller car as my wife now has a family car. Cant work out what my car is worth. It is a 51 plate E class Estate 320cdi with leather and auto/tip. It has just broken 100K. FSH with the last one or two at a specialist. I am 2nd owner, previously my fathers car from new. I need to get a v small dent sorted on the boot. After that and a polish I think it is in pretty good order. I cant for the life of me work out what it is worth. Parkers seems to be out of step with autotrader. But autotrader is such a load of rubbish it makes it difficult. Anyone any ideas? Cheers

Get a trade-in price for it, add £1000 & advertise it privately. Where abouts are you? Area makes a difference too. You'll get more for it in cities than in western Cornwall or Scottish Highlands. I wouldn't mind it myself but a 2001 is going to be too much for me.

Cheers. Just found a link on Vauxhalls site to the Glass' guide. Reckons £7100 in excellent condition for a TRADE IN price. So as is I would say that I should probably be happy to get £7500 and maybe nearer 8K if I fix th elittle dent. Seems such little money for so much car ! Needs an MOT in January which I will do. But needs a service in 2K time. So I guess I should probably take 7.2K as is BUT I am restricting my market. Probably better to fix the dent, get it serviced and advertise locally. I am in the midlands near Bakewell, Sheffield etc.. (just moved here from Surrey).

A car has to have a current MOT to be taken as a trade-in, that's the law. How bad is the dent? Has it broken the paint? If not, I wouldn't bother with it. Get a new MOT & spend a weekend with polish instead.

The dent is the size of my thumb nail - very small but it has broken the paint.

Spec makes quite a difference to the value on these. I was looking to buy one recently and so many had very little spec that I gave up.

With cars as complex and expensive to fix as these, many people insist on buying from a dealer. You may find a buyer privately though you'll probably find that it will be a friend of a friend rather than from an ad. Anyone buying privately will want to get a bargain (or else why give up the trader backup) so I'd say you need to be £1k under the screen price to be in with a look in. At that rate, you may be little worse off trading it in as a trader will have little trouble moving it on.
I'd advertise it for a month or so, then if no luck, given the hassle of selling privately, just job it in.

Hi,
Had a similar problem when I wanted to sell my 124 Estate after I bought the 210 Estate. Advertised in Autotrader which was a waste of time, then rang round dealers locally and still no interest.

Totally frustrated by now as a last resort I picked up my digital camera, went outside and comprehensively photographed the car and placed an ad on ebay. I was after £500 (which I set as the reserve) and eventually was persuaded to stop the auction early as the buyer was prepared to pay £900. This was my first experience of ebay and I have bought and sold regularly since. I notice that 210 E320CDis come up fairly regularly on ebay and 100K examples seem to make around the 7-8K mark depending on spec etc.

In my opinilon a very good way to sell a car just so long as you are careful and vet your bidders.

The important bit you have done, keeping a full service history.

Good luck with the sale and above all else remember that you are selling a good car, as Jberks says you can always chop it in if all else fails.

Cheers guys. Its an elegance with tiptronic, in silver, with grey leather and CD player. Dont think it has other extras. It is a great car, just surplus to reqs. Was going to buy another car privately tomorrow but may not if they are hard to sell privately. Suprises me - thought at this end of the spectrum people would rather buy privately than some 'honest john' trader with a pretty worthless warranty. Looks like 7.K is my target. Will take a look at ebay.

The M5 is a keeper. Tremendous value for money and one of the best cars BMW ever made. I have been on Pheads but lost interest a while back. The Cerb is a car I'd like to own too. Good luck with the sale. Does your car have Parktronic and 7 seats?

Parktronic ? Is that reversing sensors? No. (but you can fit those after market kits and colour code the sensors which I understand are good).
And it doesnt have 7 seats.
I askied my parents to order with those extras but they didnt.

My cousin is after a E320 CDI estate, 2000 onwards. If you PM me with a contact number he'll get in touch. He;s a genuine guy and has been looking for over a month for one.
