Hi guys hope you can help.

I have seen an awesome looking E55 AMG at £8000.

I currently run a E320 CDI with mega mileage and I really want a fun car.

Is there anything I should be aware of in respect of engine or gearbox.

    Once again great forum

I await your responses and thanks in advance.

    Vig

Engine and box are bullit proof, its all the other bolt on bits around the car which cost the money!!!

    Thanks for reply so quickly.

It has done 112k and full history.

Any other big problems on electrics or really anything you think might help as my heart is saying buy it and worry later.

2002 will be one of the first, there are some electrical gremlins on the earlier ones which were resolved in the late 2004 onwards cars (build 805)

Try and get it inspected at a local indi on a ramp, rear crank oil seals leak on these and are about £400-£500 to repair as i have just found out!

generally bullet proof , make sure all the services have been done etc, dont just look at the price as in the long run you may end up paying more as alot of things are not cheap on these .

discussed many time on both the UK forums, a quick search will get you alot more info!

My parents have had their 2001ish E55 estate for over a year now and not had a single problem with it, but like cole says its the other bits that are expensive... brakes, tyres etc. Great car though, especially de-badged!

Thats just rude though having it as a "sleeper" mind you the noise should give what it really is away. Didn't this model also have the SBC brake issues or was that 2003 to 2005?

Well a 2002 could be the last of the 210s which have no issues, or the start of the 211's which I assume still have SBC on the AMG models.

    Thanks for your input guys.

I have decided to spend a little more and go for a 2005/2006 model as there do seem to be problems on the early ones and all niggles sorted by 2005.

I have had a long chat with a indie in Birmingham near me and the costs are not bad.

    Xmas pressie to self:)
