Hi guys. I’m new to this forum and at the same time proud owner of my C220 cdi tiptronic “56” model. Browsing trough this forum I wanted to find out what mileage I should expect from my car and also to ask a few questions.
My daily journey is 34 miles on M4 (junction 7 to junction 3) and my fuel consumption is in average 34MPG. My previous vehicle Passatt TDI was doing same distance at 41MPG? Is something wrong with my CDI?
Also I should have 150BHP and passatt was 130BHP who can not be compared to Mercedes. (100 times faster)? Gears in Mercedes take too long to change, response time very slow.. kickdown button 1-2 seconds delay?
This car was 6 months old when I got it from Greenoaks and I wonder if I should take this car back to get it checked or even better has anyone got some answers so i can menton to greenoaks.
Many thanks....

Hi focus.
I too have a C220cdi "56" reg estate auto recently bought.

I have been averaging 36-38mpg on mixed motorway/urban driving.

This week on only town driving it is down to 33mpg although two recent 200 mile trips @ 85mph max @ average 58mph i was getting 45mpg.

I too find mine slow and checked the log book to check it wasn't a C200cdi!

Compared to my previous Saab tdi 150 is no comparisson in speed or mpg (45+mpg). The Merc however is auto so maybe that explains it. Kickdown is very slow and runs ouut of puff allowing passats to roar past.

Overall though MB ownership is fine with no rattles compared to the saab. I do have terrible steering though and must take back for checking.

Fuel consuption

I have a '02 C220cdi Sport coupe, I regurally get 48 -50 on motorway work and normal average is about 44mpg for mixed driving around N Wales-Manchester area. Obviously I tend to keep very close to the speed limits as Mr Brunsom and the Traffic Taliban are always present.
My wife regurally gets in the upper 50's and I have seen over 60 mpg on long distance motorway she has a much lighterfoot than me. He normal average on mixed miles mainly maximum 4/5 mile journeys to local schools etc she usually gets 45/6 mpbg an a tank -(thats using the average trip meter o the dash) I found that the car got a lot better after about 30k (now 45k)

thanks chelsea 57 and Silver-racer for you feed. I think i will get my in to the garage to bee checked. Today i di 34 miles mix and my avareage Fuel c was 32MPG. As Silver-racer said i dont want to be stopped by Trafic Taliban (ha ha ) and i drive more like Mrs Daisy than Michael Schumaker.
Also my friend with an old E class 220 cdi is geting much better milage per mile and its a lot faster than my C class with same engine considering the weight ot an old e-class.
I will keep you all posted with my findings and MB responce.

It could simply be that your trip computer is more pessemistic. allegedly, I get a worse mpg in my 270 than my friend in his 320. I doubt it's true. More likely it's the way the computer is calculating it. In any case, when I did a fill to fill check the figure was slightly worse than what I expected based on the readouts. The computer is a guide but don't take it's figures as accurate.
Then there are the road conditions that can affect it dramatically, the width of your tyres and a number of other factors.
I suspect the garage will find it ok but its certainly worth a check.
