Agreed! Not for me thanks.Definitely more GT than 'traditional' SL on that mock up- probably not a bad thing for some but I fear the traditional SL buyers will stay where they are
The R231 doesn't leak so think they cracked it...I think the design team are going to be hard pushed to have something that looks nicer than the R230/231, even though they are starting to look a little outdated now........Long live the R230.
I bet the 2022 SL will still leak.
Mock up of the car:
Agree could be argued almost in XKR territory...Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Sorry but for me it looks a bit too much like a poor imitation of the Massarati Grancabrio.
I'm sure MB's designers will argue the the rag roof gives it a lower centre of gravity, blah, blah, blah! And MB's sales division will hitter on about market segments etc. But to be honest the real thing a bout the SL R230 & R231 (minus the ridiculous Black Edition thing'y). Is that you get best of both. Stunning open topped Grand Tourer or Classy "night on the town" Boulevard cruiser coupe.
I'm sure the new Sl probably makes my R230 feel a bit anaemic, but why would I want to buy something that looks like all the others in that group?

Agreed it isn't bad, nor is the XKR, perhaps everyone prefers a leaky cold ragtop and that will boost sales.Doesn't look bad to me, but I guess MB had to do something in view of annual SL sales in Europe dropping to 1000 ish from a high of 17000 early on.
