New to owning a sprinter and to be honest 82 bhp is not enough i have seen various tuning boxes for them and there is one on t ebay for about 70 quid but is it any good? i have a rover 75 that i fitted a tu3b to and its amazing and it took it from 115 bhp to over 150 and i love it from what i am told i can get 115 brake from the 208 and that will be great but just want it to be reliable too any advice greaty recieved.

Is it the later 208CDi or the old 208D?

To be honest It would probably be best to leave it alone. The 208CDi has a different turbo to the more powerful 211/213CDi with the same engine displacement. Another problem would be that even if you did achieve a worthwhile improvement in power the gearing would then be all wrong as the gearbox and differentials have different ratios in the less powerful 208 models. The 208 was only ever intended to be a lower mileage runabout for tradesmen and local deliveries. If you are doing a lot of distance and motorway work then you would be much better off looking for a 211/311 or even the rarer 213/313 which also gives you ABS as standard.

I have a 308cdi (same engine as 208cdi) and have had it re-mapped (cost £350 IIRC). It now has about the same power as a 311. It's much more powerful and responsive to drive. However all Steve's points are relevant - the diff gearing means it's noisy to drive at 70mph, whereas the 311 is quiet at 80mph. Also it's so smokey when you put your foot down that you need to lift your foot a bit and "balance" the smoke and the extra power. I assume it's due to the different turbo. Fuel consumption is 29-30mpg if driven tamely, but can drop to about 23 if driven hard.

To summarise - Yes i'd chip again, but only if it's not going to be driven hard. I'd probably choose a 311 in the first place.

Try CCC technology. They did my Sprinter 310 with brilliant results. The drivetrain winces a bit with 140 BHP and god knows how much torque, but well worth it.Looking at their chart,107 BHP is possible from a 208,which ain't bad for circa £300.
