Here's a question for the real Mercedes anoraks.
Walking through central London yesterday I passed a W124 Coupe, L reg, that was badged as a 220CE. Now I had thought that you could get either a 230CE or an E220 Coupe.

Is there a 220CE or has someone just been playing round with the letters on the boot lid ? This car had the earlier W124 bonnet with the larger grill.

Answered my own question

Maybe I should have gone back and deleted my original post, but here's a bit of info for anyone interested.

http://www.usenetcars.com/archive/index.php/t-84391.html
c124 coupes introduced March 87 4 cylinder 230CE AND 6 cylinder 300CE.
Additional model -6 cylinder 24 valve 3 litre engined model 300CE-24 added
in1989.
1992 new multi valve engines arrived with 2 models 4 cylinder 220CE and 6
cylinder 320CE replacing previous 3 models. These lasted only for about a
year!!!! until they were face lifted,[ new headlights and clear glass
direction indicators are best external features] and rebadged as E220 COUPE and E320 COUPE till end of run 1996.
So the answer to your question is yes there was a 320CE for about one year 1993.

Yeah

The 220 engine replaced the 230 in about early 92.
The rebadging came in late 93.
The biggest difference is the bonnet & grill though.......... Star moved to bonnet.

Although there were 220ce around for about 18months, being replaced with the facelift E220 coupe, I thought the 320 did not come until facelift (E320 coupe). I thought that the 300ce and 300ce-24v, were replaced with the E320 coupe (late 93).
