230CE - 1988 - 124 - possible gearbox issue

Hiya guys

First time poster... :wink:
I knw this topic has probably been done to death but i thought i'd ask anyway..
Seem to be having a problem with the Auto box.
The box is labelled D, 1, 2. Not sure if that means 3 speed or 4...Car is in immaculate condition, as is the engine...
However i seem to get iratic gear changes...particularly between 2-3...Really only happens at this gear...It doesn't slip but doesn't go into gear as smoothly as it does in 1st. If there is slowish acceleration - no problem..If however you pick up sharpish (not too fast) then it thuds into gear very quickly...

Now my understanding of auto gearbox's is that most mercs almost lightly bounce into gear..This is almost a flat thud into gear...I have changed the gearbox oil with no effect and am hoping this is a vacum hose issue...
As i said earlier, this doesn't happen all the time, really only with brisk acceleration...Once at this gear it kicks down fine...

Sorry if this is a repeat post...Any help would be appreciated..

I note that most MB gearboxes change up and down softly but mine is a bit firm from 3rd to 4th if I'm giving it some welly. If you've changed the transmission fluid then I'd just live with it unless it is giving you any other bother. You don't mention what mileage your car has done, gearboxes are bound to age and as long as you keep up to oil changes etc I'd just drive until there is a real problem with it. No point spending money unless you need to.
