after having the headgasket done on w124 230e, the car is taking time to change gear. changes at about 4k rpm. checked vacuum hoses, atf, throttle cable adjustment. still same problem - revs rise to about 4k if you come off the throttle a little then it will change gear up. any help would be appreciated thanks

This would sound like the Torque converter comming to the end of its life.
We always tested them by getting up to 50 then take your foot off the throttle where it would drop into top, slightest touch on the throttle and it changes down proves the point. The converter can be changed on its own without the gearbox.

If it was changing OK before the headgasket was done it can probably change OK now. Almost certainly is simply an adjustment thing. Had exactly the same on mine after a headgasket was done; an little slide adjuster next to throttle body, under the air filter, needed a tweek. Can't remember which way it went, one way tightens the cable, other way loosens it. BUT mark on the adjuster (snopake/equiv) where you started from. A little adjustment made a lot of difference, so little changes until it's right?
