Hey guys, this really ought to be a no-brainer but it's been confusing/infuriating me for a while now. The problem is a leak around the rubber seal on a new main fuel filter in my W123 240D. It shows typical fuel delivery problems when on inclines and drips vegetable oil on peoples driveways. I don't believe there is anything special you have to do when replacing these besides making sure it's done up tight so I can't think what could be wrong.
The filter looks and feels like it fits well, but I have noticed it says 200D, 220D on it but not 240D. Is this going to make any difference? Also when changing these is it wise to fill the new filter with fuel before replacement to ease bleeding? And when bleeding should the fuel bubble from the large bolt on top, or from around the rubber seal? Would the veg-oil make any difference due to increased viscosity?
I don't know, I've got far too many stupid questions for the most basic of tasks. I feel like I'm phoning the AA to change my wheel.
Any suggestions?

Veg oil will have a higher viscosity so will encourage air leaks. Also is the filter a genuine MB part or not. For veg. oil you need Viton seals, and aftermarket filter may not have Viton.

it is advisable to fill teh filter otherwise you can flatten the battery before bleeding the air is finished.
