250 td auto starting problems

:( my 250td estate 1986 will not start from cold when it has been left standing on a level or inclined front up surface (it runs for approx 3 seconds and dies off which indicates a fuel starvation problem) I have to keep turning the engine over until it eventualy runs, however! if it has the rear wheels up on ramps overnight it runs 1st turn of the key. I have fitted a new lift pump, cured all leaks, considered selling, kicked it, pleaded with it, all to no avail. Has anyone had a similar problem? HELP !!
