250D ran lumpy lost power & cut out

I have a 1993 250D auto, on my way to work today after about 3 miles the engine started to run very lumpy, lost power, ran very slowly and the cut out, it did this several times for about 20 mins in which i got about 1 mile, I switched it off for about 3 minutes while i had a look under the bonnet, could see nothing obvious, then it started up ok and I got to work ok, I also travelled home ok, has any one any advice to what might cause this, no light came on to indicate any faults

hi and welcome. this sounds like fuel starvation. try checking/replacing the fuel filter/pre filter.

Yes fuel or a temp or air pressure sensor,,no MAF on these.
