so 2 weeks running now I've hit a pothole and the sidewall has split and burst. Is this standard or are my tyres just shyte ?? Does it happen to michellins and similar brands.

The roads at the minute here are a mess.

We went through a spate of flat tyre syndrome last year, mainly due to the poor roads and deep pot holes which destroyed the expensive tyres. We have changed too cheap tyres and not had any more issues

No joke there. The Fosse Way has been completely resurfaced iirc 4 times in, ohhhh, 2000 years. Same with the A5 (Watling St). The M1 is constantly being resurfaced. Depth of foundation is key, even minor Roman roads had foundation beds 4 feet deep. That’s why they last so well.

I managed to pop both left hand tyres on the same pothole a few years ago, cracked the front wheel and bent it out of round. The council claimed that it wasn’t a pothole as it extended to the gutter, it was a “collapsed edge” instead so go whistle! So they got an invoice for a wheel, two new tyres, fitting and my time at charge-out consulting rates, plus interest...

The clue is 30 section tyres... without any sidewall the road impact is passed straight onto the wheel and suspension.

So tyres knackered, alloys cracked, springs broken, bushes worn out and an uncomfortable ride all for fashion...:(

The roads in some foreign land in Indonesia or somewhere, are so bad that you have to drive constantly steering around all the pot holes. Apparently, if the police see anyone driving in a straight line, they are instantly stopped on the suspicion of driving while drunk. That's where we're heading!

They’re fine in Japan where the roads everywhere are like freshly poured glass... but our mediaeval rutted dirt tracks?

One of the things they blame are the frost's for the poor condition of our roads. My Granddaughter was visiting friends in Norway a year or two ago and she said the roads were smooth with no potholes. Why can't we learn from them ?

The government only give small allowances to councils for road repairs, they can't blow the entire amount on one stretch of road.

The councils are bloated caricatures of what they were originally envisaged as. Their primary reason to exist now is simply to exist. Not provide the services that we pay them to provide. That’s the real problem.

A tad harsh, I work for,
St Helens Council and overall they are pretty good, not perfect by any means, but not bad. :p:D

What is the width of said tyre?
