30 year rust warranty

I have seen a few posts here about the 30 year guarantee. Can someone please confirm what the criteria is to benefit from this and is it only available on cars after a certain time.

Check your service manual inside the car, all the criteria are laid out. MB came out with the 30 yr rust warranty about '99/'00

The 30 year anti-corrosion (not all corrosion is rust!) warranty was introduced in September 1998. Officially you are required to have followed the service schedule with Mercedes Main Dealers - i.e a FMBSH to qualify for repairs. It has been known for cars without a FMBSH to have warranty work honoured, however there appears to be no hard and fast rules - even cars with FMBSH have been refused warranty work on the grounds that the current owner hasn't had it long enough! From experience persistance is the key. If they refuse any claim ask for Eskulab reports from Milton Keynes and seek legal advice.

You dont need FMBSH, 98-02/03 cars,for the first 5 years can be serviced by anyone,after that period, it must be serviced by a merc dealer to maintain the warranty. Look in your service booklet, under mobilo.
