Hi,

I'm thinking of buying an E-reg 300 CE Auto.

I'm concerned about the mileage though - it's done 200k. The transmission was refurb'd at 150k and the oil pressure's good, no leaks etc.

I'd be intending to drive it regularly (daily) but not far - should I be concerned about the miles?

I'd appreciate any comments. . .

Thanks,

Fin

If the condition is good and, by the sounds of it you have documentation of service history etc, then 200k is not particularly excessive. I think the 12 valve motors use a little bit of oil between services (at least the 2 I had did) but this is normal. But bear in mind at that age and mileage it should not be very expensive... I would not advise laying down a lot of cash on it.

If you do buy it then stay on this forum, service it regularly and be prepared to get a bit of help with the occasional niggle and you'll get years of good service from a decent example.

Thanks for your reply.

Re the price -

I signed up for the Parker's service and it goes back to an 1988 E-plate - I assumed that 'cos it was advertised as an E it would be 1987 (but like a pratt, I didn't actually ask about that) except you don't get an 1987-E option on Parkers.

Anyway, Parker's 1988-E 'Private Good' price was £1460 - is that what you meant by 'not very expensive'. I realise that in this sort of range we're in more of a 'what it's worth to me' rather than market value but I'd hate to be the only fool forking out 1400+ for a car that simply isn't worth that kinda money.

Again, I'd appreciate any comments as I'm a complete merc newbie.
