Opinion please!,£4500 for a 90' 300E 24v with 160k ,FSH up to 80k,the guy said he'd mot it when whoever buys it so they have a full year.
Body/interior absolutely superb, best I seen on a Merc (or any car for that matter) at 12 years old, like I say what the opinions please.

Then again do you think it'd be worth while mot'ing it myself, and try to get cheaper.
Cause' maybe he's adding quite alot of work on the price to cover for something serious for the mot, again what do you think?.
Or just let him mot it.

Merc,

I reckon this sounds expensive especially considering the mileage.

Think what you would get if you bought it and wanted to turn it straight around. I doubt you would find somebody happy to give £2750-£3000.

Personally I would do a little research on autotrader.co.uk and check their prices.

I may be wrong, but it does sound like a lot of money.

PS: Having made a basic check on Autotrader.co.uk, I can many cars younger and with far less mileage for less money.

I thought it a bit expensive, but Andy did say I'd be lucky to get one for under 4k (a 24v that is!),but you think diffirent!.
Iv'e seen a couple on the Ad trader ect but the dont say if they are 24v or not,and you have to call that ****** premium rate line to find out,but maybe I should.
But thanks for that David,I'll check it out some more once again thanks.

Why keep looking at gas guzzlers?

Whats up with buying a nice diesel ?

An E300 Diesel would be a whole lot better.

or even a newer C220 or C250 diesel

Hi

Firstly the price Merc is paying is not out of the ordinary. Its hard to sort the prices with the estates. They command a higher price than the saloons as we all know. But if they have 7 seater then their even higher. I doubt you will get a nice car £2750-3000 and a 24v. Which seems to be one of Mercs criteria. Obviously if you can chip him merc then great. I would let him put the mot on. That way if there is a problem with the cat, brake pipes etc he will have to sort it. Depending on how much he has to spend and how much he bought it for  and how quickly he wants to dispose of the vehicle you might still get a little more of it.

Fuzzer, with regards to the diesels. If I read Merc situation correcly. These vehicle may well be just outside his price bracket.

I would agree with Dave S and scour the autotrader website. Whether there will be enough cars to choose from in your area is debatable.

Good luck

I may be wrong, but it sounded to me as if you thought it was an estate (maybe you didnt) but no its not!maybe your just comparing prices.
And yes there isn't alot of these up here thats the only one I saw the rest are "down south",but yes, once I wrote that about me mot'ing it myself I thought about and yes it would be better to letting him do it.
Yes Andy your right, regarding your answer to Fuzzer, these cars are out my price range!,and apart from that,I haven't had cars that long as you know, and Iv'e never known anyone to have a diesel and Iv'e never had one.
Anyway we'll see what happens now.

Following on from Fuzzer, i would recommend you getting a simple 2 litre 4 cylinder car. You have had a bad run of cars lately (happens to the best of us!!) so i would go for something cheap to run.

What I meant to say also,he put a new exhaust on it last summer (he has the receipt for it) and he's renewed pads/discs ect again he's got all reciepts.

David.. yes I did see ones at the price your saying, but there are the 12v model, now maybe at a later date (and no doubt I'll get tore to bits for this!!!),but if it was possible to fit a 24v head on it,now before anyone says anything,I have did a bit of "homework" here and I think, now I say think!!,it should fit bearing in mind having to add/modify certain things like belts/electrics ect.
Now I know right away someone will be saying "save up go and buy the proper car" and yes I agree.
But I can buy a 12v for about £1500 ish,and I thought if (and I do mean if!) I could get a 24v head it could be put on,cause' it would be cheaper (maybe) than giving this £4500 ish for his.
I hope people understand what I mean!!,Well I'll go and bullit proof jacket while I await the abuse from whoever!!.

Regards

PS.I guess thats the American I me,I like a challenge from time to time!!

Matt

Yes I know what your saying, but honestly matt that thing wouldn't "pull you out of bed!!",its crap!.
Even if the 2.3 was a 24v (like my Saab, well I know it had 16 cause' its a 4 pot)) it would be better but its not.
I'm not saying I want super car performance (I couldnt afford it anyway),I just want something to resemble what I had before thats all.
The 5 ltr was just to much,but a 3 I can manage.

Hi Merc

Don't know where I got the impression you were after an estate. Sorry. In that case the quoted earlier are about right.

I am not sure I would run out and get a 24v. I think you will be disappointed. And the head wont fit either!!!!

The only difference in power you would notice is in mid range, about 70-80mph. They pull like a train at these speeds.

For what its worth if I were you. I would go for a late 300E, with your luck you will have problems with the 24v which can get expensive. If you find yourself a late 300E J\K reg they will have all the power you need plus they are great on fuel. These engines had a power uprating which makes them just great especially for the money you should be paying.

Hope I have made some sense. But I echo Matts question. Now youve got the 230 running properly why change?
Good luck anyway.

Regards

Merc,

Are you actually as full of the proverbial as you sound? Not so long ago you were pleading poverty with no job, now you've managed to do a major engine fix-up on the last bag of spanners you bought, and want to trade it in for something quicker!! Sniff sniff... what's that I smell?

Well Susie!

Who the h*ll
are you to lecture me about anything!!,how can you comment on anything you haven't even seen for f***k sake!.
Whats your **** heap like then!,then again I bet you probably drive a nice new shiny merc or whatever,And Iv'e said to someone before,I dont have to/will not explain my financial situation to you/anyone else.
All I will tell you,is that a mate fixed the car for me,thats all you need to know!!,and when you have been working (well I dont know about you,and quite frankly I dont give a ****!) you tend to put something by "for a rainy day",well that was my rainy day (head gasket).
If you remove your skull from the anus, you can refrain from the smell of ****.
