Hi everybody!
I bought a 91 300se a few weeks ago and its been ok so far - till today, when we decided to go through the drive-in. After paying for the grub the kid says "go get your food from the next window" so I went to put the shifter from park to drive and it was jammed! and it just would not budge. Panic set in with several cars behind me, while I franticly wrestled with the shifter. I tried everything, switched off, put hand break off and on, got out and rocked it! Anyway, about five minutes passed and I was ready to give up and ring the AA, I put my foot on the foot brake and.....smooth as silk the lever just came forward into gear! few! What gives? Is this like a safety thing? or do I Take it to be looked at?
Any thoughts?

...err...I think you will find that you have to have your foot on the brake before it will come out of park.

Think what would happen if you didn't as you would have to go into rev before getting to drive

:-? every auto I have ever had has needed your foot on the brake before you can move the lever, it is a safety thing.
How do you normally get it into drive?

My SL129 was the same, when i first bought it and tried to fill up the key would not come out, so I drove around the corner to try and out it came, back to the punp and no way would it come out until your foot is on the brake.

With the shift it should be a safety device so if you left children in the car there is no way that they could knock it into D or R.

There was a case in the states recently were a women claimed that here kids knocked it in gear while she was out of the car. Case dismissed.

Nice car you have. malcolm
