Hi,

I have a 1992 W124 300TD (estate) with a hole in the front exhaust section.

I brought it to 3 local exhaust garages and they all said it was the same section and that the part was Mercedes main dealer only.

I went to Merc and was quoted EUR477 (+ fitting obviously).

I then search online and found a part that looks identical for GBP150 incl shipping to me, which is about EUR160, so a big saving BUT the car is listed as a 300D saloon and not TD.

Are these exhaust sections interchangeable or does the estate really have one slightly different which is main dealer only?

Many thanks.

take it to an exhausr fabricator, get them to make you a section tailored to your car, prob only cost you £200 at the most

an option I suppose. I've never come across any fabricators locally but I will have a look around.

Dublin

i can tell you where one is but it may involve a ferry trip:mrgreen:

any good exhaust place who do custom exhausts should be able to sort it for you,

The turbo version was not offered in the UK in RHD form I think

i don't get it.

My car is a 300TD which does not mean turbo diesel but touring diesel.
or am I having a senior moment?

anyway, i will have to shell out close to 500 unless the 300D downpipe is the same part as the 300TD (estate 3.0 diesel)

I guess people here have access to the parts DB? My VIN is WDB1241902F217470

Very interesting, thanks.

The 284GBP would tally more closely with the 477 I was quote by a dealer here (they are always more expensive than the UK and they are probably working on an older exchange rate anyway).

I found a saloon exhaust on www.onlineautomotive.co.uk for GBP106!!! Is anybody able to tell me if this is the same part? I can't seem to link to the exact page. I just selected an exhaust front pipe for a 300D and it looks identical to the printout I got from the merc dealer but there could obviously be differences.

I can't order from any Merc dealers in the U.K. as they won't ship to Ireland, to protect irish dealers I guess......

I guess for 106 I should take a chance?

hi

The link you posted shows one for £106 MZ245J-OL if you zoom in on it by clicking the magnifying glass thingy it has the same part number as i gave you above.

If you need parts from MB dealer why not come north, we get the parts at the same price as the UK. Prices will be the same as Inchape if you can get a 10% discount, with the Euro so strong parts are bound to be cheaper in north now.

Not a bad idea. I'm only 45 mins from Newry (well, before the mayhem). I'm not sure I can trust the £106 part, it might be poor quality. £286 is basically €300 which would be a saving of €150ish and I would know for sure it's a good/correct part.

Thanks for the help!

I think the link I gave you just rips off pics from the catalogues as they have a disclaimer that the part not be exactly the same as the pic. I don't know if i can really trust it. Then again if I got it for €150ish all in and it was wrong I could order the correct one in Newry and I would be no worse off than having spend the €477.

decisions decisions........

Hi

Your closest MB Dealer is Mercedes Portadown http://www.mercedes-benzofportadown.co.uk/ if you ask you should get 10% discount which will bring it to the same as Inchape.

I used to commute Belfast to Drogheda every day but have changed to overseas now, i could have met somewhere but doesnt suit now though.

Good luck with your decision.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
I spent a while looking for exhausts for my 300TD (its turbodiesel in the UK) and eventually just bought the MB part.

My view was that the first had lasted 10 years and about 180,000 miles, which isn't bad for £300-odd quid.

I'm not sure the part is the original. All 3 garages said teh flexipipes were holed and one said he wouldn't repair because of access. I went to "FastFit" who apparantly do alot of flexipipes but they wouldn't do it either.

The Merc dealer said his part seemed to have no flexipipes on it.

Hi all,

I eventually bought an exhaust section from Mercedes and got my local garage to fit it and all was well. After about 2-3 weeks I notice fumes coming up the engine bay and guessed the seal was bad at the manifold.

I dropped it back down to the garage to have it fixed and they are saying that there is a split in the flexi's and it's not their fault.

This is worrying me as the initial problem was diagnosed as a split in the flexis.

Q1) Would this part be covered under warranty or am I screwed as Merc didn't fit it?
Q2) If this is covered under warranty are Merc just going to say it was an installation problem?
Q3) Could there be something obvious wrong that could cause the flexis to keep splitting?????

Help!

Hi

Mercedes parts have a 2 year European warranty regardless of who fitted the part. Just take your car to an MB dealer and say you have a defective part and you want it replaced showing them the invoice. If the part is faulty they should replace it no quibble. I bought and fitted pads and discs and they replaced them for me 6 months later for no cost.

That is my understanding of how it works.

Is the gearbox support in place on the exhaust?? This bracket would carry all the weight of the front section. If it wasnt in place it might put extra strain on flexis?????
