New member, looking for help with my 99 sprinter 312d. Noticed glow plug light on dash wouldnt go out, and van failed to start after only a 5 minuet break.
AA couldnt do much, but did check there was good fuel pressure at the injectors. The Glow plug solonoid clicks on and off as expected, but indicator stays on. Tried a bit of rapid start but only the odd cough! she has 250k but up untill now never missed a beat!

We have a couple of good guys, and they know these things well, when they see the post you hopefully will get an answer.

Sorry for the delay. If the AA man couldn't help (in past experience they were always very knowledgable) then it looks like a job for the diagnostics computer as the Very Nice Man should have covered all the easy and obvious items we could suggest.

It shouldn't need the glow plugs to start unless in arctic temperatures so I don't understand that part off the problem.

Crankshaft position sensor is the most likely candidate, although I would have thought the ECU would shut off the fuel to the injectors :-S
