What sought of mileages have yor 55 engined cars got, or mileages you have either experienced or know of. My current e55 is 06, 7K, but very low spec, MB currently have a couple of high spec models, older on 54 and 55, more mileage, 14K and 26K, and am pondering the thought of trading mine in for slightly older , more miles, but better spec, but how long do these engines, and associated parts of the car go on for, before you start aquiring huge bills?, any comments. thanks Rick

Mine has 50K being serviced tomorrow on a B, the car is a Aug 03. I have seen E55's (W211) around with upto 85K on them and they have been trouble free regarding the engine. I would expect at least 150K+.

48k on mine - big unstressed V8 will go on for years and 150k+ provided it is properly maintained.

Lost on the A303 :o)
Got 90k on mine. It's quiet compared to my old TVR's engine (refering to the sound of the engine, not the exhaust note, obviously).

124k on mine and runs like it's done 30k! As long as they're looked after, from what I understand, they're pretty bombproof.

Mines a 1999 by the way.

These engines were or are the flagship. I posted this in a different post and have coppied it.

Just adding some technical bits on the 113 engine and not the one in the thread. This may apply to others,I have not checked.

The oil feed to the timing chain tensioner has a sprung loaded ball valve that is kept under pressure when the engine is turned off. this would mean that a worn tensioner could cause noise when the engine is first started.

Another nice feature of this engine is the automatic retiring of the engine when it is off,and to make starting easy, this is done by the crankshaft damper that is spring loaded and acts in a centrifugal way, also blanking the lower gallery to stop oil loss.

Very clever well thought out stuff
