Looking to buy the oil filter remover seen few on Ebay for £4.99 and genuine Mercedes ones for £27. Anyone bought the cheaper ones?

I got mine for £12 off Amazon. You can use a chain wrench too.

Think machine mart sell them as well. If yr doin ur own cheapo is fine. Trader buy the Benz one, tho frankly buying anything from dealers is an option of last resort for me

I have 2 chain/friction type oil filter removal tools in my garage, always had problems trying to use them so bought a full set of different size proper socket-types in a case from a motor factor, cost less than £25 and did the job easily. Needed the different sizes as at that time I had 3 different cars to work on and a pit in my garage - don't play those games these days!

I have the Laser one linked to above.. it's a good job.

Interesting that @Chrishazle has had issue with the chain/grab type.. I never liked the look of them and feel vindicated now lol.

For anybody buying anything in Halfords.. I strongly recommend that you beg/borrow/steal/blag a trade card. You get discounts on nearly all motoring stuff. Sometimes small, sometimes significant. I find the Halfords branded stuff has good markdown.

Thankfully folk on here don't call them Halfrauds like a lot of online communities.. I find them to be a solid operation with mostly good/helpful staff. The stores are well stocked too.

I for one would be pretty gutted if we ended up losing them like a lot a lot of other bricks and mortar retailers.

I also support Halfords. The only thing I dislike is the fact that they sometimes put prices up massively on some stuff and then advertise a large reduction back to normal price. This could just be my local store of course. Trade cards get a massive discount as you say.

'Horses for courses' Halfords are good for the everyday needs and carry budget and some better quality brands but fail on technical issues where they often claim otherwise. I don't know about the Pedal Bike department though they always appear to be busy?
