I enquired at my local Merc dealership what warranty was given with a new Merc. The aftersales dept told me 4 years, I replied suprised "4 years!!! for a Merc?".
I was then told that provided I had a full service history then a further 4 year goodwill gesture could apply, and to take it to the approved bodyshop.
This I did and sure enough the warranty will cover work to:-

1. Blistering to trim around the doors.
2. Blistering to doors
3. Blistering by saloon boot
4. Blistering to wheel arches, plus other bits.

I'm overjoyed as this would have cost me £2-3500 but will be picked up by Mercedes.

This is fantastic it pays to buy quality.

Mine is a c250td April 1998 so I've got in just in time. Beers on me!

Congrats at getting them to do this for you. They do a lovely job so you should get a showroom condition car back at the end.

However, its not all good news. The reason they introduced this warranty is that they allowed the accountants to reduce the build quality in terms of paint and metal and as a direct result many post 98 cars started to rust early. Especially around the doors, boot and wheel arches. Their cover does not include stone chips and anything still covered by paint shouldn't be rusting at 8 years old anyway. To put it into context, aside from a couple of missed stone chips that we have since treated anyway (our fault so fair enough), our '95 C class is still spotless. Areas such as wheel arches, boot lid etc are all perfect on original factory paint. Your's should have been too. The W210 (E Class) was particularly bad. I had a 2000 one and this had 4 warranty claims for corrosion over the 4 1/2 years I had it.

The good news is that post 02 cars seem to be back to traditional MB paint standards. Certainly my 04 motor seems as well painted as my '95 one. But time will tell.

Granted, but all things considered I'm still pleased. Yes it shouldn't rust at 8 years old. However Merc could have told me to get stuffed after the first 4 years like some other makes would have done ie Ford, Vauxhall.
As they are prepared to meet the cost of this I am happy as legally they probably don't and is a goodwill gesture.
This is probably a damage limitation exercise. However based on the forum this needs to be done more in view of the problems that they are experiencing with newer models.

No car nowadays should rust after 8 years especially not one which cost that much, even small fry like Skoda have a 10 year rust warranty, NOT goodwill but warranty!!

I wouldve preferred a little more goodwill when buying my car ie value for money for one thing

Our recently purchased E320CDI did not have a full service history, the last service just before I bought it was by Andy Gaile (B'ham indie) and therefore the blistered rear tailgate was not covered by the warranty but it AND the stone chipped front end was covered by the deal I negotiated with the seller. I've had a price for the complete front end, rear tailgate and rear bumper repair @ £700 from my bodyshop whom I was impressed with on previous jobs. He even waxoyls the inside of the panels as part of the deal. I KNOW I will get a superior job (better than original) and better than the local MB franchised bodyshop who I have inspected and am singularly unimpressed with particularly with their BS.

Although mine has a full service history with the last serviced by an Indi Merc the work is still being done under warranty, ie full service history NOT with dealership.
