'91 W124 200TE uneven throttle response & jerky gearchange

Had this last year, turned out to be one of the cable springs on the injector had broken.

Symptoms have returned, but the spring is still intact. Happened suddenly on a long run. Holding a steady speed now involves lots of throttle juggling, and it doesn't back off for the gearchange.

Any clues ?
