A 140 Fuel/Air Sensor

I have a 2001 A140 which suddenly began running erratically, and the engine warning light is on. The MB dealer has put it on the computer and told me the Petrol/Air Intake Sensor needs replacing at a cost of £900. Apparently these Sensor's cannot be repaired.
Does anyone know if the Sensor can be repaired? - or do you know of a MB garage that can repair/ supply cheaper.
