Hi I have a A 160 which has started to have a petrol smell when its sitting ticking over or when the engine is warming up. I have checked the engine bay, fuel lines etc and there are definitely no leaks. It is due a service by myself, (cheaper and more trustworthy than paying £95 per hour plus VAT.)
As I have found it impossible to get a workshop manual for the car, does anyone know if there is a filter/breather that gets clogged and causes the fuel to smell as described. The car runs perfectly and still has the same fuel consumption.

Hi,

I had the same 'petrol' smelling issue when I had my A190 Avantguard. The smell of petrol would enter the cabin, normally when the vehicle came to a sudden stop eg. at junctions or traffic lights. (particularly in damp weather).

Despite my local garage looking into it they never could come to the bottom of it - the car always ran fine and I never had a problem, just the annoying smell occasionally!

Must admit - it still did it when I traded it in for my C-class!!

Sorry that doesn't really help, but i'm interested that others have experienced the same thing.

Micman, Thanks for the info on petrol smell. I will post a reply if I can find the cause. Thanks Roy for info on where to obtain a manual for my A160.
