Hi

Strange question - but how on earth do you gain access to the spark-plugs on an A-160? I service this car and my own Audi TDi, so am familiar with engine layout, etc, although I admit I'm stumped with this one.

I left the job of replacing the sparks on my wife's A-Class 160 Elegance because I ran out of time when I serviced it before. However, it needs a service again before winter and the plugs will probably need to be done.

There is a plastic housing with electronic leads at the front of the engine, down below, in line with the bottom of the radiator. Hot or cold?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Richard

Do plugs need doing on an A class ? My E's last for 60k so would probably only be changed 3 times in it's life. Apparently they are the same plugs as the S and that has an even higher limit. I wonder whether this is why they are tricky to get to. What does the book say ?

Can you elaborate please regards coilpack unclipping? I'm sure I gave this a good once-over and didn't see any obvious release point?

According to manual - the sparks need to be done every 50,000 - 70,000km or 4 years since last change. The service book was stamped by main dealer at 49,000 miles when they were last changed. Car now at 65,000 miles.

I'm not saying I'm going to replace them, but I wouldn't mind a closer look to check their condition. Glazing, cracks, oil or carbon deposits on the sparks will let me know what's going on inside the engine.
