I've just had a phone call from the garage to say they can put my car right for £450.00
It only went in for a £140.00 A service?

Parts needed:

Wiper blade
pollon filter
rear pads
new MAF
and the stearing dampener is leaking.

Now most of this i can sort my self, however.
where is the steering dampener?
Ive looked on http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb1.asp?TP=1&F=208344&M=111%2E956&GA=722%2E616&GM=716%2E622716%2E627&CT=F&Cat=45Y&SID=46[/URL]
and cant find it? it's probably me im not very mechanical but im willing to have a go!

Euro car parts want £68.41 for a new MAF is this about right?

Any how haven't picked the car up yet so will tell you later if ive any more probs.

They did manage to get rid of the yellow "check engine" light wohoo!!

Tell them to do the basic service only.

While you're there, buy the wiper blade, pollen filter, pads, and damper from the parts desk. You can source the MAF direct from Bosch for about the price you quoted. Mercedes will charge you much more.

Once you get back home, the forum peeps here will tell you how to put the rest together, and you'll have saved yourself an easy £150 quid.

with regards the maf, Euro car parts had 3 listed?

I noted the price of the gen replacement.
BUT
will changing the maf inprove performance?
is it worth getting a special maf?
how much more will it be?

Its got to be more economical just replacing it for a new one!!

If you really need a replacement (I would ask how they know), get the OEM Bosch one. Don't get a cheapo one. Its basically a hot wire that measures the amount of air passing over it (more air = wire gets cooler) so the vehicles computer can work out the fuel mix.

Has yours been suffering with performance issues, loss of kickdown, inability to rev freely or pull up hills in high gears? Those are the typical symptoms of MAF failure.

To replace them is an easy DIY job, you only need the correct Torx driver (a fiver from any autofactors) and 5 minutes. Its a doddle, search these forums for MAF problems, and you'll find plenty more info.
