As a new member hello to all - this looks a helpful site.

There are no doubt numerous threads on this one but perhaps to save me time help would be welcome.

I have a C 180 Kompressor Sport just coming up to three years old and at 40,000 miles. I have just had a call from mercedes to remind me I need an MOT but I am also 400 miles from an A service. The Southampton dealership have quoted £859 for the service as they say that in addition to the basic service I need additional work - transmission oil, air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs. There was another item I did notmake a note of but a minor thing. The basic service cost is £246. The additional itms seem very basic so I smell a rip-off am I right.

I purchased the car as a demo in July 06 and people are always saying that if I take it anywhere other than a main approved dealership my warranty will be void. Is this true and will the warantee apply from the original date of reg Dec 05 or when I purchased.

So bottomline is can I get the car serviced elsewhere at a lower cost without voiding any warranty.

Thanks for any help.

Hello and welcome,
The warranty is 3 years from 1st reg date. If you have any probs then get it down to them and get it sorted under warranty. After this is doesnt matter where you take it.

For the service
I recommend Member blackc55, he is fairly close to you, very good and a dam sight cheaper than main dealer.

This seems excessive by several hundreds - phone back, ask for a written quote (they could e-mail for fax it to you) then send it to Mercedes head office - I bet this will bring it down by at least £300. Even the Basic service A seems high at £246 - it is roughly one hours labour plus an oil and filter, probably 5.5 litres and £8 approx for the filter

I have booked my 2001 230K CLK for thursday in Brentford MB, After discount they are charging £210 but i have asked for loan car which is £20 extra. Seems fair enough as previously i have bought oil from GSF for £50 for 5.5 litres. What else do they cover in A Service?

Should i go to MB even though car has done 80K and its nearly 8 year old?
