HI
IT's my wife's car, and she only drives it 3 miles in the morning and back i the afternoon. It is the S reg petrol version with approx 85 K miles on the clock.

Very sluggish unresponsive drive, occasionally stalling. Standing behind when she drove off, I noticed the smell of unburned petrol.

Initially we thought it is the airmassmeter, but apparently this model doesnot have one.

The mechanic i normally work with is more a VW person ( as I am) and he doesn't particularly like work on the A class.

It has been sent to diagnostic twice, first time 8 faults shown , ( not too unusual as the airbag and other lights do come up irregularly on the dashboard and we have spent a few hundreds 2 years ago to have it all reset at Mercedes without too much joy.)
Is there a workshop specialist with some experience of A class in the Southend/ Leigh/ Rochford area that you cld recommend? I have been to Mercaid in Basildon last year, but beleive they are only marginally cheaper than Mercedes Benz.

We miss the car as I have to drive her to work and pick her up etc.

Any help highly appreciated

yes, probably built into ECU. So you reckon this is a common fault. Thank you. Do you also happen do be able to recommend a source for replacement ECU?

And I think to remember reading on the MBO site some praise for independent Billericay garage P G Wilkins for work on Mercs. Does this still stand?
I have looked on the recommended indie garage thread but his name wasn't mentionend.
Thanks for your quick comment. My wife is losing her patience without her car ...have to sort it out asap.
Cheers

the airmass as i said is part of the engine ecu and has to be ordered to chassis number from the lovely german factory at a cost, the word in the trade that theres a company on the isle of wright that can replace just the sensor, its only the word but might we worth some time to find out, could save yourself nearly £600 pound!!!!

Your ecu is easily removed so, if you can get hold of the company that repair them, that would be a much cheaper option.

all i would say that its worth doing your home work and keeping it in this country, a lot can go wrong dealing outside the uk, once you have paid your money theres not a lot of getting it back when it goes wrong!!!!

Dorset :Autotec electronics

I'm glad I found this now. Yes it is worth better keeping it within the UK, and I am impressed with their website/diagnostics and typical faultindications.
Here is the link, repair/return original unit in order to save the £200 recoding of new unit that MB wll charge.
