My '06 A150 has developed an intermittent start fault. When I insert the key I hear it unlock the steering column with a shuffling noise but on turning the key there is just a click (although engine lights, radio etc all come on).
Sometimes if I remove the key and repeat process several times, it will start but at the weekend this simple strategy failed. If my journey is simply from A to B it will starts ok but if journey is A - B, B - C, C - D in other words after short journeys with multiple stops then i have a problem. On Saturday the car refused to start again after having driven 12 miles. After a 4 hour 'rest' it started first time. Obviously this is very disconcerting and potentially dangerous.
Using the spare key makes no difference - so I suspect it is a transponder/immobiliser problem. I am about to contact MB main dealer but browsing the forum, it seems other owners have experienced similar difficulties in the past. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has any news, advice, recommendations etc - especially whether it might be a known Mercedes fault for which they acknowledge responsibility - i live in hope!
(BTW: The car is well serviced, low mileage 23500). Thank you.
