My engine has been playing up. Cuts off fuel, drive is jurky, cuts off when idling. ECS lights up.
My garage claimed it was the computer. Replaced a chip, charged me £100s. Same fault keeps recurring. When they wire it to the laptop. It is refusing to reset and have to fix the board again. They gave me 6 months warranty on the repair of board. But the problem is not fixed.
There must be something else causing it. With computer control, you can't touch any thing.
Can anyone help please?

Are you using a Mercedes specialist or a generic car repairer? Unfortunately, with the complexity of many modern cars, faults such as yours are nigh on impossible to diagnose with out the right specialised equipment and software.

£100 sounds suspiciously cheap for what sounds like an ECU repair? ECU repairs are nearly always beyond the scope of a garage fix and have to be sent to a third party who has the required equipment to check, repair and, if necessary, reprograme and once you include their charge plus the profit for your garage plus VAT then £100 is not enough.

Are they actually doing anything or are they just pulling at the wires and plugs in the hope of finding a loose connection?

Sorry I couldn't be more help but it looks as though you may need to find another garage with more experience in this area. I am sure someone will be along soon with more suggestions and perhaps a recommendation, where abouts in the country are you?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the post.

It was a merc specialist with all the equipment, not a dealer. I said £100s, not just £100. It was just under£600 actually! They go through computer diagnosis, remove the board and send off for fixing, etc. It is still not happy. Still jerky at times. I lost confidence in the car.
