A190 timing chain broken?

Hello, ive bought an a190 with the timing chain broken (so im told?) i was just wondering if this job can be done whilst the engine is still in the car and can the head also be removerd while its in situ.

Ive been told you have to drop the engine on the subframe which looks a very time consuming task? any advise appreciated
