I just renewed my membership. They sent me a renewal notice last month which I decided was prohibitively priced at £320.69, so I ignored it. Their representatives have tried to call numerous times but I've been too busy to deal. Today, after a few minutes haggling I've got all the same bells and whistles for £179.00. At this price, it's very good value. Active consumers win, loyal customers get creamed.

I've got mobilo too, but last year when my gearbox needed attention I didn't want Main dealer bills. I relayed it to MBS, some 50 miles from my home. AA membership served me well.

I had an email from the RAC yesterday that they’re doing 50% off until the end of tomorrow. Ticking all the boxes (roadside, relay and onward travel for any vehicle) came in at less than £65. I paid £125 with the AA last year then got nearly £55 cash back.

I don’t need to renew just yet but a very good deal.

Members of the Mercedes-Benz Owners Club get a 30% discount with the RAC. I have family breakdown insurance that covers 5 people for just £180 per year, that gives full cover.

With Nationwide Bank travel & medical insurance, also include breakdown & mobi phone insurance.
Never used the breakdown, but had two claims on the travel & medical very good service.

Mine covers my wife and I in any car, driver or passenger. Home start, relay, Europe, legal etc. We have three cars aged 5yrs, 15 yrs and 16 yrs. My wife isn't much better than me with spanners, so we're glad of the help if things go wrong.

I gave up on the AA years ago, having been a member for decades (and my late father for decades before me, from the days when they were on motorbike and sidecar and saluted if they saw your membership badge on the front of the car, I still have my Dad's grill badge and key to the AA phone box! If they did not salute, there was a speed cop just down the road!!). As soon as they were sold to Centrica the renewal offer became stupid, I'd phone and be told "you're entitled to discounts that have not been included, the correct price is...". I'd had the full bifta of home start, roadside and relay for just under £100. Then the year came when they would not reduce below about £170 so I asked my insurers for a price (Saga at the time) and they did the same for £110 - and as they were also owned by Centrica it would have been the AA if I'd had to call for help!!

These days I get breakdown cover via my insurers (now LV), again full bifta (wife and I, any vehicle) for not much over £100 - but a friend has similar cover via Autoaid for about £50!

I go through this stupid rigmarole every year. Every year I get the "special discount available just today" approach and the price comes way down. Virtually the same price now for the past 5 years. One of the main reasons I stick with AA is that there is no limit on the age of vehicle and the fact that you are covered for a vehicle where you are a passenger. It really pays to examine the small print of all these breakdown insurance policies (which of course is what the AA is now)

There really is no need, there's plenty of them that will do you a policy for the whole of Europe including relay, homestart and all the other tick boxes in the one option/one price they offer for 60 pounds a car, maybe 70 pounds for a car over 15 years old - just look at moneysupermarket.com or something similar. Having one price and no gimmicky offers means renewal is hassle free at a very similar or even lower price every year. Forget having to negotiate with the AA to get a "special price of 180" (that will almost certainly not include driving in Europe!). OK, if you have 4 cars or something maybe these "customer is covered, not the car" policies makes sense but with just one or two cars it's a no brainer, in fact for many families with one car and many drivers, it's worse...

If you can afford 14 cars, you haven't got a problem.

I just take the roadside cover provided by RBS associated Platinum whatever they want to call it.
Joint account so both of us covered even for cars we are passengers in.
There's travel and other cover too. £18pm

That's why I use family cover with the RAC. It covers 5 people for any car £180 per year with club discount.

Sounds good value. I presume though that the family has to live at the same address. Is there an age restriction on the cars? (AA doesn't have one) and are you covered as a passenger?

Never said I could afford 14 cars. Children seem to think that they do not require breakdown cover 'cos parents will come to the rescue.

We've done the same with another banks, both the wife and I have never had an issue being rescued.
