My AA Breakdown insurance is due for renewal soon; and they want £102 for the year.

This only includes Roadside assistance and Relay, and I think I paid something like £70 or so last year when I first took it out.

I feel like they are taking me for a ride and I'm probably going to cancel it before it automatically renews, what do you think?

Still cheap when you consider it would cost much more to get recovered from a M/Way if your not covered and to get taken home car placed at a location of your choice i have to use it more often then i like but is well worth it in a time of need

I gather the AA will do you a deal if you call and say you're going to cancel. Or you could let it expire and rejoin as a new member - there's usually a £20 M&S voucher available.

Or look at the alternatives - Brittania, GEM etc.

If you have the car dealer serviced, quite a few makes, inc some MB dealers, include a years breakdown service.

Try these www.rescuemycar.com.
I paid £35 for the year and they recovered my ML and took it to where I wanted it to go, my indi no problem. The cover is for the car and not the person so it does not matter who is in the driving seat.

At least if you phoned for a local recovery company and paid hundreds of pounds they wouldn't leave you and 5 more stranded with no 12v supply in the pouring rain in January for 8 hours from 1am whilst they ironed out their own system error with regard to vehicle length. I wouldn't give them the time of day.

Thanks, they came out cheaper too.

Keep MB servicing and there is free breakdown cover on most ages of MBs. Trouble with the AA is the con that you are covered for other cars but your car is not covered for other drivers. So for man and wife, both need to join. For two of us that was £150 for full cover, plus another £100 for cover in Europe (day-trips, holidays etc) Mobilo covers all drivers here and in Europe.

Plus I could find nowhere in the AA blurb to say I would be towed to an MB garage (may be there but I could not find it -others may know more) and I don't want my Mercedes towed to Joe Soaps garage thanks.

I doubt my W124 would be covered by Mercedes, though it does have FSH but not all MB.

2 years of AA membership and I've never had to use it once; it just seems like burning money to pay over £100 a year for it.

I was with the AA for 21 years and never has need to call them.
I and my wife were covered in any car as driver or passanger nincluding the continent and towing a caravan.
My automatic renewal notice came in last month and it had climbed to almost £180.
I felt this was taking the mickey so I checked with Green Flag and got the same cover for almost £50 less, so I cancelled the AA and took out Green Flag.
When I called to cancel the AA did not even ask why a long standong member wanted to cancel, this proves they do not care.
I will be covered from the first of April with them.
Good Bye AA, hello Green Flag.

I dont have full MBSH and to be honest would not want my car taken to the local stealership anyway when I can get fantastic first class service from my indi, no wonder he is so busy and the local dealer so quite.
Rescuemy car will take it to where I want it to go, they took the ML to the indid even after I told the guy that it was driving now but I would prefer hi to take it as it could potentionaly cause further damage, his answer was, no problem where is it going to.

That is what I call service, Mercedes you need to wake up.
I also was with the AA but as the other car is a company car I only required cover for the Ml and not me or the wife, rescuemy car was the best for me at the time, and that means more money in my pocket to spoil my family.

To AA or not to AA

I am in the happy position whereby my bank account (LloydsTSB) provides me with personal membership of the AA - i.e. I am covered which ever car I am driving or travelling.

My only attempt to use MB ended very quickly with an emphatic "no" from them (vandal broke the window, alarm system resulted in a flat battery). I have subsequently been advised that such problems can be covered by Mobilo Life. Indeed, MB man did not even wait to hear the details. He did however ask almost immediately if I was a member of the AA and suggested that I call them.

The AA were excellent, as they always have been in my experience. Arrived promptly, jump started the car, vacuumed out the broken glass.

One reason for hoping for a better response from Mobilo Life was that the engineer who responded would have understood and cleared any error messages. Happily, my W211 "healed iteslf".
