After about 6 months of searching, I think that I have found a car within my budget.
The vehicle in question is a 1999 E320 CDI estate approx 115k miles. Service history is Mercedes to 90k miles, local garage subsequently. Service indicator shows 7400 miles overdue for service as it was not re-set by the local independent (non merc specialist). The oil looks clean, so looks reasonable. Interior wear about right for a 115k car
Now the bad bits... Rust - front wheel arches (both) rear door, near side rear wing. Also needs 4 tyres and wheels are tatty
The car drives better than any other E320 cdi that I have tried, the engine is smooth and quiet and pulls like a train. The mpg indicator was showing 38.5mpg average. Gearbox was seamless, tiptronic worked well.
I know that it is dificult to predict, however, does anyone rate my chances of Mercedes fixing the rust under Mobilo life cover? If not what is the cost likely to run to.
Also I am guessing that the glow plugs and injectors are probably original - what mileage would you expect before spending big money on these
I think that I can get the car for £6k which seems reasonable
