I've recently become the owner of a 94 C200 auto and there are a couple of things that seem a little strange. Firstly the accelerator peddle seems to have all the 'bite' in the last quarter (i.e. I have to push the peddle down three quarters of the way before I get any reaction). Also, although it probally just me using it wrong, the parking break doesn't seem to work. It pulls out and goes back in fine but it doesn't light up on the dash or hold the car. Do I have to push or twist something to activate it?

As for the parking brake it is foot operated (left one) the pull out lever is to disengage the brake. Also if you don't wish to hear the clunk as the brake comes off when you pull the lever use your left foot to ease the pedal back up as you pull.

Hi my son,

I think what you are experiencing with the throttle is the kickdown. This makes the autobox drop a gear when you put your foot down, thus giving the feeling of 'bite' after 3/4 travel.

I don't know about the w202 C, but my w124 E (also '94) has a foot operated parking brake; you push the pedal on the side of the transmission tunnel to apply it, and the honnle (handle) thingy by the door releases it.

Ah ok that explains the strange little peddle off to the left, cheers for that.

I'm not sure that is kickdown to be honest, I know what you mean but it is always the same even at slow speeds and in reverse.
