Hello everybody, may I please ask for the advice. I bought 2 years old a class from the dealer with 3years extended warranty and service plan. Unfortunately had accident few days ago, spoke to insurance and been told it might be repaired in one of they recommended garages. I think drive shaft snapped not sure what else and some body work needs to be done. What’s happen now with my warranty and service plan if the car will be repaired by somebody else? I’ve not contacted Mercedes yet, not sure if I should, appart from using sos button when that’s happened. Thank you

Hello and welcome,

As long as it’s repaired to Mercedes standard then it shouldn’t be any issue with warranty or service plan

I would use the recommended repairer, otherwise you may have issues with your insurance. Its a perfect get out clause for them, but confirm with them it will be repaired to MB standard.
I would not use MB for body repairs, they only farm it out to a repairers & charge more.

Many many years ago I had a handful of repairs needed where people hit me and I’d say, check out the garage to get an idea of the so called recommended garage.

Ultimately you have the right, by law, to have your car repaired at a garage of your choice. Doing this the insurer will make it harder for you with things like asking you to arrange your own courtesy vehicle etc. back then a company called helphireUK sorted it a out with both insurance companies and got me a reasonable courtesy car.

When I used garages of my choosing, car was spot on afterwards and one one occasion, with a Toyota, I found a fault with the lights operation which they took back in and resolved. However, when 2 cars were repaired at recommended repairers, the work looked ok but, any issues that were hard to down and fix were left and with a two finger salute. In this case I ended up selling the BMW and on a VW, front end alignment was inconsistent so I put that into an independent and downs £1100 having it all put right after the recommended garage didn’t want to know.

Look beyond the illusion of words and smiles and go with what’s right for you.

Thank you guys for your replay. Really appreciate them. In all this accident I find something strange about the car, I hit the car from the back, right corner and somehow end up on the side of the other car. But why would airbags won’t deploy, is it some certain speed you got to be doing? Other think there is nothing mentioned on the dashboard or on the car or even Mercedes me app that something accualy happened. And lastly this car supposed to have safety things that should recognise the potential collision and not sure slow it down or stopping. That didn’t happened, talking about 3 years old car. Thanks

That's a lot of questions in one go

Airbags work off an acceleration sensor (well technically a deceleration sensor I guess) that measures the g force in an accident. It there is not enough force to warrant deployment, then they won't. Being a.corner collision, then the force will split across two vectors so may not be high enough to trigger them.

Odd that Mercedes Me doesn't register it. Mine was hit in a carpark a couple of years ago and it immediately popped up on the app.

Collision detection varies from car to car. The simplest ones only have a single forward facing radar and may have limited scope to detect something in front of offset as it sounds like it was fo you. They also don't detect things moving towards you, it has to be stationary or moving in the same direction but slower.
