Hi there!
just looking for advice, i have previously owned c/e class and recently purchased a 2012 ml350 within the last 2 weeks
I have put it into a garage yesterday to just have a check over as its still in warranty from the garage i bought it from.
They discovered that an ecu/control module in the rear quarter was unplugged and then scanned the car while ascertaining what the ecu/control unit was for.
they have advised me that it is the adblue control unit and the fact that no codes showed stored or when its been plugged back in the adblue in fact has been deleted and coded out.

is there anyway of actually confirming this? or reverting the code back in? in effect the garage has sold me the car like this which is not road legal but maybe hiding issues later on with dpf. should this have shown up on the emissions on the MOT?

many thanks! i love the car but alarm bells are ringing on this for me as if i wanted to do this it would have been my own choice!

Hello and welcome,

Take it back and contact trading standards

There can be lots of issues with AdBlue and DPF’s on all Euro 6 cars which is probably why the previous has done a delete. The car isn’t legal to drive

Does a 2012 ML350 have AdBlue? Seems a bit early. My 2013 E350 didn't have it ? Maybe 2012/13 MY was the crossover point.

Anyway, Welcome :) and as BC & Srdl say, if your worried - take it back.

cheers for the replies as i know the legal side of it especially with my job which isnt helping!
its annoying as it had all the spec i wanted after a long search,
I take it flashing the ECU recoding wouldn't reverse? i have seen a lot of them are done by OCB port and lots of companies offer it as a service to delete for 'off road use only'
does anyone know if this would have pushed the emissions up? i can see the MOT hasnt even flagged it?!

LostKiwi is this the person in the know?!

Putting it back in with the software probably won’t be enough as the DPF has probably been gutted.
MOT emissions test will most likely pass however that doesn’t make it legal. There’s a lot of threads on it… Get the supplying dealer to rectify it now!

Might be a good idea to check the VIN it will confirm whether EU6 and if it is it should have all the ADBLUE plumbing

im waiting for the garage who sold it to ring me back as the main person is not there, im sure they weren't aware also or maybe they did.
so it has a adblue filler next to where you fill the diesel and when ive checked online is says euro6 even though its a 2012, i havent been under the car to see if the tank has been disconnected also or if i can see if the dpf has been deleted or gutted.

i have plugged the ecu in the rear back in and it still hasn't thrown any codes up either before this or after so again this is why my garage are thinking that its been deleted as this isnt something that just falls out, just not sure how anyone could actually definitely check and confirm it has been so i can say this to the garage i bought it from

If it's got adblue delete it'll be an expensive fix as the most common reasons for adblue delete is to bypass an issue with the adblue system. Most repairs are £1500+ but and adblue delete £100-£200. If the answer from the dealer is unsatisfactory, return the car and get your money back. He's more than likely not even aware of the adblue issue..

You simply have 2 choices.

If you love the car get it fixed by MB and charge all back to the selling dealer, or give it back and get a refund.

If it ends back up with the selling dealer they will have to put it right before reselling if they are self respecting, which will cost them, which could work in your favour for option 1.

Which is why I recommended Trading Standards... they focus the mind for traders to do the right thing... ;)

As mentioned I had a similar issue when I bought my R class. In my case someone had gutted the DPF which is over £2000 from MB.
After a very long and annoying 'discussion' with the seller we agreed an amount towards fitting a DPF of my choice for me to arrange.
Not the most satisfactory result but given the rarity and difficulty finding the spec I wanted it was one I took.

My advice would be take it bake to the seller and demand a full refund. The vehicle is unroadworthy and therefore unfit for purpose. So not allow him to deduct for mileage you've used it for as you have been at risk of prosecution and could have been in major strife if you'd had an accident as your insurance would have been invalidated.
