Same as that. I not gettin fd over for rubbish. If it was a one off fix wud be OK.
I keep myself updated on adblue delete. But sifting the decent from the chaff is the next lottery.

The wheat I've spoken to ,have been doing this over 5 years . They pretty much know what's what . I follow them on the two faced book , and the cars going through on a daily basis are all diesels.some being mercs younger than mine .

I do wonder how complex a 12v heater for adblu tank can be.

I am surprised there is not onenin them. Mercs have had heaters in the wash bottles for as long as I can remember. Maybe the chemicals in advlue dont like being heated

The trick is to make it integrated (not replaceable), so the only way to change the heater is change the whole tank. Now that's a cash cow!

Of course they have one in them, adblue freezes at -11c.

Adblue in my 2011 S350 (W221 50,000 miles), ran low a week ago with amber eml coming on too. Filled up with 20l and anti crystal additive; eml went off but returned after 100 miles approx with another low adblue warning and 494 miles range warning. Checked the level today with a wood rod and it remains full so I gave it a half-hearted stir and refitted filler cap; eml off again and no fault messages. I've connected a YOUCANIC diagnostic device and found a few points of interest:
1/ no stored codes
2/ pump test not possible with temp below 5C
3/ adblue heaters showing no faults
4/ 'maintenance' function has two steps; first 'refill adblue' then 'erase adaptation values after replacement of adblue'
I ran the 'erase' function and I'm hoping that's it.
There are three fill level sensors called 'EMPTY', 'RESERVE', and 'FULL' from which i would infer that only a complete refill will eliminate a reserve level warning. My sensors now have the status WET, WET, WET :)

I wonder if the external tanks are more problematic than the internal tanks found inside the boot. ?

There's a heater apparently!!

I've had quotes of £200 for stage one remap and all the ad blu rubbish and nox deleted off. I'm keeping the car long term so I think that's where I'll be going . If and when it's my turn.
Ah of course, the heater! So by process of elimination, I guess it was the heater that failed (although surely that would show up on Star, whereas mine apparently showed a pump failure which it didn’t turn out to be). Not much else in there that it can be, as the level sensors are ok. Just curious that’s all.

Each time the EML came on with AdBlue warning it was about 0 degrees Celsius so I assume the heater only kicks in when temp Is below a certain threshold.

I like to know all the inns and outs - the indie was good but when I asked what is inside the tank, I got “all the workings” lol.

And our trick, is to find a way around that. 12 v fish tank heater comes to mind and a resistor to provide can bus with an in range value to relevant ecm?

On this video you can clearly see the Def pump sitting on top of the Def heater ,the heater also has three metal rods to determine the Def level and also a filter at its base.

I guess things will differ car to car ,but it's giving you some idea of what's what.

not a system I am au fait with. Thanks for letting us know.
If ur not, I strongly suggest you do your best to avoid the whole benz adblu story. It's just a shxxe system designed in a shed and 10x more expensive than need be to maintain. Buy pre adblu motor or petrol . What ever don't buy a new or after 2013 diesel. Far too much back yard emmisions rubbish dtf bolted on.

on many brands once u trigger the I'm going to cut the engine out due to really low Adblue level - you enter the realm of specialist dealer level resets - that secretly turns into this module needs to be flashed with later software

Not yet. But despite tank pump and heater replaced just before I purchased car I have now had check adblu and the 500 miles to go warning. I have cleared both times thrown the " medicine" in the tank. I have not seen any more warnings for about 3 k miles now, I avoid short journeys, and hav little confidence in the electronics ( actually none)
For first time in life, 65 today, I have EU rocovery insurance. On what supposed to be leading quality motor!!!!! With less than 60k miles on it...
I strongly believe that benz should be forced into 10 Yr warranty on emissions kit, then they might make it properly, and I and the greens will be happy and few will be at the "delete plan" which regrettably is where I am going if this "shixe" issue reappears during my ownership.
