Hi all

I have been trawling the web for ages and keeping coming back to this forum, so here goes.

Apologies if post in the wrong place.

I am looking to buy a used SLK maybe a 200 if it has a/con + leather, more like a 230 due to spec, as funds are limited (nothing new) will have to be around a 2000-2001 model.

Advice would be much appreciated on the following questions, as I would trust your replies rather than the main dealers having read all the bad reports (though am sure not all are bad!).

Servicing:- What are the service intervals?

Seen a car advertised with 40,000 on the clock but with part service history??, does it matter if it hasn't been serviced for 20,000 if good price that I would still be saving money if I bought it then had it serviced straight away?.

Mileage:- Taking into account the above, am I better getting a lower mileage car at higher price or higher mileage etc?

SLK's:- I currently drive a BMW 318SE 2001 model, great car but I find the Saloon a bit boring, just hit 40 so am regressing back, are SLK's good affordable option.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

I've popped up because no one else has answered.
Buy one with a full service history then the MOBILO will still be valid I would say look at post 2003 MY they will be galvanized or 96 or earlier from a specialist trader.
I'm not an SLK man CLK is my beast. There is a SLK Forum if you look for it

Hello,

Depending on your budget the Merceded History is not a deal braker, my dads old SLK was a third car and although he bought it new in 1998 it didn't make sence to service it by Mercedes.

He recently sold it for 8K, it was a 230K, s Reg, AMG 17" alloys, Black, Heated seats, red / black leather,Bose, Auto, 60K miles. It had a full service history just not merc?

Someone got a great car it had almost every option you could get back when he ordered it. They are nice cars, pretty quick, he regularly got 30mpg, even holds a fair bit in the boot. Sound wise its a bit dull as its a 4 cylinder and can sound a bit course, but again it depends what your use to I guess.

Think in 2001 they got the indicators in the mirrors, also I wouldn't go for a manual one.

I think black with the siam beige leather (think thats right) looks great and more 'man..ly' in black. Drove my dads a few time and even lately it still got the looks and cannot beleive some people still havn't seen the roof work..

I would look at a few and see what you think, get a RAC or AA check and as long as your happy and its a good deal then go for it.

Heres some pics of my dads we took for the advert,

I have one (Wife's actually) great car - 1998 / 230 - 24,000 miles all I would say is check the roof operation several times and after that again a few more times.

If you've found the right car go for it :D

Great cars as said, when you get it, do the roof mod and you should be trouble free.

Mic

hello and welcome
i looked last year at an SLK and will pass on my observations
I would be cautious about a car with 40 k that did not have a history, working on logic it would be much more saleable with the book stamped, if anything shows neglect, why have an expensive car and not have it serviced serviced ?, and 20 k miles would be pushing it without an oil and filter chage. Does it have any other history, old MOTs to back up the milage ? how many owners
200 SLKs are worth a lot less than 230K,s whne they were new the difference was about £5k , lots some did not have AC.
Common problems, roof operation, quite complicated hydraulic and electric with lots of micro switches can be expensive to fix if not trained on them.
I think i wouod be tempted to walk away !
