Advice on buying used C180...

Hi Guys,

Need some advice on a second purchase.
Its a C180 Classic auto. It's a 1996 P reg and in red colour and done approx. 37,000 with full merc history.

It's condition is usual for it's age.

Up for £6,300 ... is it worth it and should I go for it????

Sounds a easonable price, but check the cat and tyres and make sure the auto drives okay. (I speak from personal experience)

Mine had a FMBSH, but has still caused me constant headaches. I'm having the third cat fitted tomorrow (in 5 months).

Generally they are dropping in price like all cars, but try it and drive it, and if all seems okay, GO FOR IT!

Hi

If you have had to fit 3 cats then it sounds like you have been fitting cheap catalysts.

I have seen the same problem. Buyer beware!!!, Once of 12 months its doubtfull whether you will get your money back.

just my two penneth...... i would, having just purchased a new cat for my C180 get it checked at least get a printed test sheet from the m.o.t. station or if it has a full history (M-B !) then you will have it from the last m.o.t. look at the print out and say to the seller can you take it for a re test on the cat if it passes .......... should cost him (or you! no more then £15.00 max)
I have just purchased one, as i said, from Hi-Q, full exhaust and cat for £600.00p with 2 years guarantee but if after 12 months (next m.o.t.) the car fails the m.o.t. on the cat what can i expect back?
I am not sure but if i could have i most certainly would have purchased one from M-B. they quoted approx £580 + vat for the cat alone when i called my local dealer.
Having said that if the car has only covered 30 odd thousand miles then it will be like new !
As i stated earlier ...........just my two penneth !
