Hi, am looking to buy my first Merc. and am looking at the CLK. Can someone give me some advice in regards to the 200k or 230k specs? I'm used to the performance of a 2ltr turbo - what do you think?

Hi & Welcome,

When you say you're used to the performance of a 2Ltr turbo it very much makes a difference as to what car it is attached to. Mercedes are quite heavy so the smaller engined cars don't always give the performance or economy that you may require. I wouldn't dismiss the 320 engine as it has about the same economy as the 230K. The 230K was quite popular when new for company car drivers due to the tax implications.
Only problem is that if you get a 320 you will want a 430 then a 500 & a 55 ;-)

Had a CLK200 Komp for a couple of years; nice car but a wee bit too heavy for the engine. It did get a bit breathless and needed some use of the tiptronic box for urgent overtaking. The 230 just had that little bit more power/torque and you could feel the difference. Agree that a 320 might be worth looking at too. I've now got an SL320 and (assuming it's the same V6 in the CLK) the smoothness and performance are very good with fuel figures almost as good as the CLK200 (averaging 27 instead of 29 on mixed motorway/urban)

That 320 engine is a very good one and is a very good choice,,,having no turbo/kompressor makes it much cheaper to maintain

There are a few ex Subaru owners who are buying the 320 CDi CLK's.
510NM of torque and twice the MPG they are used to.
I may be biased as a diesel owner, but have not heard any complaints about the 320 CDi.

I'm just happy that the E420CDI isn't available in the UK...
