advice required 1990 e230 auto trnsmission

pulling away in D SEEMS TO PULL AWAY IN 1st having to decelerate to change up.some times changes down a gear,this maybe because i have come up off the throttle.

as anyone any advise please.

Could you explain more on having to decalerate to change up?

sorry i will try to explain more when in drive i have to take foot off excelerator to make car change gear or else it will stay in same gear

Now I understand you better and it seems you have a valve body problem. Its not an internal transmission problem but the valve body controls the whole transmission. Unfortunately quite an expensive lump, look for a second hand/recon valve body.

Valve body is in the lower part of the Transmission, If you take the tranny oil pan down you will see it along with the oil filter.

These are also symptoms of a torque converter on the way out. You can test this by doing a stall test.

Put your foot on the foot bake, put the car in D and rev the engine up, it should not go beyond 2k RPM Warning only do this for 20 sec max.
